Workshops launch for green-fingered learners

An exciting new prospectus of in-person workshops and online courses has been announced by a charity on a mission to encourage more climate-conscious gardeners to adopt organic principles in their home gardens.

Horticultural charity, Garden Organic, is encouraging beginners and seasoned gardeners alike to embrace the spirit of learning and enrol onto one of its workshops or courses. They cover everything from Planning Your Plot and Successful Composting to Growing Winter Veg.

Developed to suit gardeners of all levels and learning styles, Garden Organic has unveiled a series of live online webinars as well as self-guided courses which can be accessed at any time to suit the learner’s pace. They include an Introduction to Composting and The Principles of Organic Growing.

New webinars and workshops are being added to the website all the time and are run throughout the year. Those gardeners who are based near its headquarters at Ryton Organic Gardens in Coventry or who are able to travel are invited to book onto a face to face workshop.

FIRST STEPS

The popular ‘First Steps in Organic Growing Workshop’ will suit those who are interested in starting their organic growing journey and learning how to grow healthy, organic foods using natural processes.

Or those looking for a visual burst of inspiration about sustainable gardening can book a tour of the charity’s stunning organic garden lead by head gardener, Emma O’Neill. Visitors will see several unique areas including a large glass house and polytunnel and will enjoy the array of ornamental plants, flowers and seasonal fruit and veg varieties. The tour is followed by a question and answer session and an opportunity to explore the garden.

With people becoming increasingly aware of the climate damaging nature of pesticides and chemicals or the damage some gardening habits can have on wildlife and natural ecosystems, Garden Organic hopes that more learners will sign up to learn about the individual and wider benefits of organic principles.

“Our team has also added some new in-person workshops this year to help people plan out their growing space and get some guidance from the experts on organic growing. Our guided garden tours are brilliant for those who want a general introduction or to pick up some new tips and pick our brains.

“We are pleased to have launched the self-guided, online courses too, so people can log on at a time and pace that suits them.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to spread the organic growing message more widely and hear from learners how the tips learned are improving their own gardens. Seeing people’s photographs makes our day!”
