News from Gardeners’ World Live show

It was another gold medal for Nick Hamilton and his team at the Gardeners’ World Live show in Birmingham, with praise from RHS judges and visitors alike for its colourful and flowery borders modelled on some of the most popular areas of Barnsdale Gardens.

The display featured a deckchair from the Lands’ End seaside garden and an obelisk smothered with sweet peas, a home-made, recycled cloche from the allotment and a bust of Nick’s father Geoff Hamilton, who founded Barnsdale Gardens while presenting the BBC’s Gardeners’ World TV programme. Several special specimen plants were also included, donated by Geoff’s friends and colleagues for the new Winter Border at Barnsdale, which is being created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his death

Nick said, ‘We‘ve had a great response from visitors to our stand- lots of people said it was the kind of thing they would love in their garden and everybody was so pleased to see the sculpture of my Dad here in this special year.’

Nick was also on the judging panel for a brand-new award at Gardeners’ World Live- the Geoff Hamilton Award for Best in Show- which was won by John Trott of Mendip Bonsai, and presented my Geoff’s wife, Lynda Hamilton.
