Arundel Castle in West Sussex is alive with colour, as thousands of exotically coloured flowers have come into bloom throughout its highly-acclaimed gardens.
Visitors to the Castle this summer will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful bright Dahlias in the Tropical Borders, including the ‘Bishop of Landaff’ with coppery purple leaves and single dark red flowers and ‘David Howard’ with dark leaves and double apricot-orange flowers.
In the Cut Flower Garden, visitors will be blown away by Dahlias from the Babylon Collection – which are famed for their very large flower heads, reaching the size of dinner plates. The display features ‘Babylon Bronze’ with orange, apricot and rust highlights, ‘Babylon Paars’ – large vibrant purple-red double flowers and ‘Babylon Red’ with large red flowers, creating a sea of colour.
A selection of dazzling lilies also adorn Arundel Castle’s stunning gardens, with varieties including ‘African Queen’, ‘Steel’ and ‘Tigrens’ transporting visitors to more tropical climes.
One of the more unique elements of the Castle’s gardens, the Stumpery, has an array of striking ‘Dierama’, known as the ‘wand flower’ or ‘Angel’s Fishing Rod’, delighting visitors with its graceful arching flower stems and pretty bell-shaped blooms.
Head Gardener Martin Duncan commented: “The Castle’s gardens are the perfect place to while away a summer’s day – especially with the good weather we have been treated to of late!
“The team and I have worked hard to create something slightly different for our visitors, taking varieties of plant that are not so commonly seen and making them the stars of our displays.
“For me, vibrant colours are the calling card of summer months and our floral displays are really proving that sentiment to be true.”
With blooms from Agapanthus to Salvias bejewelling the Castle’s acres of grounds and gardens, the summer months promise to excite, inspire and enthral its visitors.
The Castle gardens are open from 10am until 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday and Mondays in August until 29 October 2017. Tickets start from £11. A season ticket to the gardens is available for £33. For more information, please visit www.arundelcastle.org.
