The Barnsdale Gardens team will be continuing their 40th Anniversary celebrations at BBC Gardeners World Live this summer. Nick Hamilton, owner of Barnsdale, has been displaying a fine array of plants from the gardens at the show for many years, but 2023 will be the year to top them all!
The concept of the show piece will be to bring elements of the last 40 years together in an explosion of colour, textures and flow. As the Barnsdale team have gardened peat and chemical free for over 30 years, sustainable ideas will also come to the fore of which Barnsdale Gardens and their founder Geoff Hamilton are so renowned.

The display will also feature the wonderful Rose ‘Geoff Hamilton’, which has been promoted this year and selling like hotcakes! This rose offers the flower shape and scent of the traditional English rose, but with a modern twist of superb disease resistance. The delicate pink flowers are held on stiff stems over a long season and the flowering time is from June to October.
LET’S TALK PLANTS
On Saturday 17th June, Nick Hamilton will be presenting on the “Lets Talk Plants” Stage in the Floral Marquee hosted by David Hurrion.
There will also be a signing by Nick of his book ‘The Right Genes’ on Saturday 17th June. This book tells the tale of growing up as the son of a visionary of sustainable gardening. Geoff Hamilton was a firm believer and pioneer in peat free and organic gardening, this ethos continues at Barnsdale today. ‘The Right Genes’ is a witty, happy and joyful excursion into the weird and wonderful journey of the Hamilton family. It shows how the lives of a father and son can follow the same pattern and ultimately mirror each other.
